Sports News Headlines, Weekly Overview: World Cup 2022
Last week the first two rounds? matches of the Group Stage of the top sports tournament, the World Cup 2022, were played.
The best Nationals around the world are united in Qatar to compete for the most desired football trophy.
Who surprised us and who impressed us?
Let?s have a look at the teams and performances!
Favorites
In Group A, Netherlands won their first match against Senegal 2-0, and played a 1-1 draw against Ecuador. Currently, they are the first in the group with 4 points.
In Group B, England won against Iran 6-2 in an outstanding match, and played a goalless draw against the USA. Currently, they are the first in the group with 4 points.
In Group C, Poland played a goalless draw against Mexico, won Saudi Arabia 2-0, and with 4 points are first in the group. Argentina are 2nd in the group with 3 points, after losing to Saudi Arabia 2-1 and winning Mexico 2-0.
In Group D, France won 2 matches, 4-1 against Australia and 2-1 against Denmark, becoming the first team to qualify for the Round of 16.
In Group E, Spain won against Costa Rica 7-0 and played a 1-1 draw against Germany. They are the first in the group with 4 points. Germany has only 1 point after 2 matches and is the last one in the group, after losing to Japan 2-1 and playing a 1-1 draw against Spain.
In Group F, Croatia played a goalless draw against Morocco and won Canada 4-1. With 4 points, they are the first in the group. Belgium are 3rd in the group with 3 points, after winning Canada 1-0 and losing 2-0 to Morocco.
In Group G, Brazil beat Serbia 2-0 and Switzerland beat Cameroon 1-0. Both teams have 3 points.
In Group H, Portugal won Ghana 3-2 and are the first in the group with 3 points. Uruguay played a goalless draw against South Korea.
Group TOP
So far, the top team of the group stage has been France, winning both their matches and being the first to qualify for the Round of 16.
Though, current World Cup winners have some problems with the squad, Benzema and Pogba are missing, they keep the quality and have already broken the anti-record of the last World Cup final tournaments, being the current champions and qualifying for Round of 16.
Surprises
The first surprise we saw on Tuesday, November 22, when Saudi Arabia sensationally beat Argentina 2-1. That was a shock for Argenians and the football world, however, we have to underline the outstanding game of Saudi Arabia.
Next surprise came on Wednesday, November 23, when World Cup 4-time winners, Germany was beaten b y Japan. Here again, we should mention the great performance of the Asian team.
Another surprise was on Sunday, November 27, when Morocco was stronger than Belgium, winning them 2-0.
