The History of Roulette Casino Game
Roulette is a French game and the name literally means ?small wheel?. It is one of the oldest games you can find in casinos, and it goes back to the 18th century. No one can really say how the game was invented, but it was probably a mixture of various English Radspieler ? Roly-poly and Ace of Hearts ? and some Italian board games. Between England and Italy, we find France, which already had a board game called Roulette and that is the point where the confusion occurred.
Roulette can not be Canadian, eh?
The French novel ?La Roulette, on le Jour? from the year 1796, describes a roulette wheel in Paris, so we can assume that the game in its current form was played in the late 18th century. Strangely, there is, on the other side of the pond even earlier references to roulette. 1758 French-Quebec published a regulation that prohibited four different games: dice, hoca, faro, and roulette. Thus in the sense that it is quite likely that the game was played before 1750 in Europe. Or maybe the Canadians invented roulette and if so, we must, I fear, to rewrite history.
A zero can make a profit
When I said that roulette in its current form was played in the late 18th century, I did not tell the whole truth. 1842 revolutionized the Frenchmen Francois and Louis Blanc, the roulette wheel, at least for the casino owners. They decided to add one ?0? to the wheel and suddenly the house was an advantage. When the game crossed the Atlantic (for the second time?) Was added to a ?00? to give the house an even bigger advantage.
The game of the Devil
According to legend, was Francois Blanc, who also opened the first casino in Monte Carlo, personally with the Beelzebub in touch when he designed a modern roulette. Why? Now, add up the numbers on the roulette wheel, from 1 to 36, and you get 666, the number of the beast. Proof enough?
