Nathan Chen Wins Figure Skating Gold for US
Nathan Chen finally took hold of figure skating’s ultimate prize. The world’s top skater over the past 4 years roared to the Olympic men’s title on Thursday, winning by more than 22 points over others with a long program including 5 quadruple jumps and a pair of triples. Chen got an overall score of 332.60, three points off his world record.
After winning the Olympic gold Chen mentioned: “It means the world. I’m just so happy,”, noticing that there were a lot of things he could have done better, “but overall I was very happy I was able to do the program that I put down.”
After his disappointing participation in 2018, he began the path to the Gold medal. Between 2018 Olympic Games and the 2022 one, he has accumulated more than 1,300 days without losing any event: National and international championships, records and endless achievements. “Everything in life happens for a reason. And if you make the right decision, something happens…” Rafael Arutunian, Chen’s coach, mentioned.
