Novak Djokovic will Finish the Season as Number 1

After the Masters 1,000 in Paris, the ATP published the world rankings on Monday, in which the Russian Daniil Medvedev, who was proclaimed the winner, beat the Swiss Roger Federer in fourth place in the ranking, while the Serbian Novak Djokovic, despite not competing in the French capital, he made official what was already known, that at 33 years old he will finish the season as number 1 for the sixth time, equaling the record of American Pete Sampras and also becoming the oldest player to achieve it.

Second is the Spanish Rafa Nadal, eliminated in the Paris semifinals by Alexander Zverev, ahead of Austrian Dominic Thiem, who remains despite not competing in Paris.

Medvedev, who was fifth in the standings, advances one place thanks to his first title of the year and equals the best ranking of his career, achieved in September 2019.

Defeated by Medvedev in the final in Paris, German Alexander Zverev remains seventh in the world but increases to 1,606 points his lead over eighth, Russian Andrey Rublev.

Canadian Milos Raonic, for his part, knows the greatest progression into the Top 20 with a gain of three places (now 14th) thanks to his semi-final in Paris and also reaches his highest ranking since March 2019.

The only tournament scheduled this week is the ATP 250 in Sofia (Bulgaria), which will feature only one member of the Top 20, Canadian Denis Shapovalov, number 12 in the world.
